"I love to see new places and experience new cultures"

Country Ambassador Baltimore, USA - Pernille

Who is Pernille?

My name is Pernille, I am 24 years old, and originally from Denmark. I have a bachelor's degree in business, language, and culture (Spanish) and I am currently splitting my time between Denmark and Baltimore, USA, where I am planning on moving soon.

I have lived in Denmark, the United States, and Spain and traveled too many many more places around the world. I am always planning my next adventure. I love to see new places, experience new cultures, and especially discover new foods.

Who is an inspiration of yours?

Anyone who does any kind of volunteer work. I really admire when people make the effort to help others in one way or another, big or small, it doesn't matter.

I think a lot of people can be very 'me-focused' so I always feel inspired to be better and do better when I hear about people who volunteer. A lot of times it does not need to be much effort for the volunteer to actually make a huge impact on someone else's life.

What change do you wish to see in your community/country?

A change I wish to see is for people to be more understanding of each other and each other's opinions. In the past few years (all over the world but especially in the US) I think there has been an increase in hate, strong stands on what is right or wrong, an 'us' versus 'them' mentality, and little understanding and willingness to listen to what each other has to say.

I think that different perspectives are never a bad thing, and people should never feel bad about believing what they believe. We should be able to learn from each other, compromise, and find common ground. It is only when we have heard the different sides and opinions that we are able to form a well-educated opinion for ourselves. Although we might never agree on certain things we should at least be able to hear each other out, who knows, maybe we learn something new.

Where should we eat if we come to your community?

There is so much great food in Baltimore and so many cuisines from all over the world.

However, one of my favorites has to be Di Pasquale's Italian Marketplace which has amazing sandwiches, pizzas, cookies, and cannolis, but it is also a marketplace with tons of meats, cheeses, bread, fruits and vegetables, wines, you name it - and it's all super delicious!
